Axelrad Beer Garden
Axelrad Beer Garden, located at 1517 Alabama Street in Houston, Texas, is a unique music venue with a rich history. Originally a local grocery store a century ago, the venue was named after the owners of that historic shop. The idea for Axelrad came about when co-owners Monte Large, Jeff Kaplan, and Adam Brackman were inspired by a rooftop beer garden in New York. They sought to create a space that would foster community and inclusivity.
Over the years, Axelrad has evolved into a lively beer garden that hosts a variety of events, including live music, open mic nights, and weekly markets. The venue is known for its expansive garden, which hosts video art, film screenings, live music, events, festivals, and more. The garden also features a large tree-turned-art-project and a projector that flashes art or movies on a giant wall throughout the week. The venue's interior is warm and inviting, with a Central and South American theme flowing through the decor.
Axelrad has hosted concerts for a wide range of genres. The venue's calendar is packed with events, including a monthly video game and electronic music experience, comedy nights, outdoor movie experiences, and a weekly jazz series. The venue also has a clear bag policy for ticketed concerts, and all bags are subject to search.
The venue offers a variety of drinks, including a selection of craft beers that changes daily. Axelrad also partners with local food vendors, offering a rotating schedule of food options. The venue's tables can seat 8-10 people comfortably, making it a great place for group gatherings.
