The Sanctuary

The Sanctuary, located in Hamtramck, Michigan, is a unique music venue with a rich history. The building was constructed in the 1940s and initially served as a bar before being purchased by a religious group and converted into a "storefront church". In 2014, it was established as a nonprofit organization focused on promoting and hosting performance art events. The venue is known for hosting a variety of entertainment, including hardcore, emo, and metal music shows.

Over the years, The Sanctuary has hosted a number of notable concerts. According to the concert archives, the venue has had 132 concerts as of December 2023. Some of the bands that have performed there include AVOID, Our Vices, Press Your Luck, and Ska't Ya Covered, among others. The venue is also known for its unique connection to the local culture, as it was one of Detroit's busiest venues for DIY hardcore, emo, and metal music.
