Silk City Diner
Silk City Diner, located in Philadelphia, PA, is a unique venue that combines a diner, lounge, and beer garden. The diner car was built in 1952 by the Paterson Dining Company in Paterson, New Jersey, a city known for its thriving silk manufacturing industry, hence the name "Silk City Diner". By 1954, the diner was installed next to a cocktail lounge in Philadelphia and has been serving dinner and nightly entertainment since.
In 2006, the original management closed down the diner, and it was purchased and creatively reworked by new owner Mark Bee, reopening in 2007. The venue has received numerous accolades, including a feature on the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives” and being voted Best Outdoor Dining Space in Philadelphia in 2010.
Silk City Diner is known for its diverse music scene, hosting live music events from Sunday to Wednesday nights. It has been a stage for various artists and bands, including Rosie Tucker, Jason Mccue, Mike Dillon, Grace Vonderkuhn, and Red Elvises[8]. The venue also has a rich history of performances, with the Disco Biscuits performing there in 1998.
