The Vera Project
The Vera Project, located in Seattle, Washington, is a unique, all-ages, nonprofit music and arts venue that has been fostering personal and community transformation through youth-driven engagement since 2001. The venue's name comes from the Latin phrase "Veri Et Recti Amici", which translates to "True and Sincere Friends", emphasizing the strong community that made the space possible and continues to guide its work.
The Vera Project is more than just a music venue. It also serves as a screen print shop, recording studio, art gallery, and a safe space for self-expression. It offers a variety of programs and opportunities, including volunteer-driven concerts, arts education in the form of classes and workshops, experiential learning and creative workforce development opportunities, and industry-aligned work positions and internships.
The venue has hosted numerous bands and artists since its first show on January 27, 2001. Some notable artists who have performed at The Vera Project include Perfume Genius, Foo Fighters, Band of Horses, Chairlift, Dan Deacon, The Evens, Fruit Bats, Harvey Danger, Lightning Bolt, Minus the Bear, Murs, No Age, Shellac, The Shins, TV on the Radio, Weezer, WHY?, and Quasi.
The Vera Project is also known for its commitment to community building, grassroots organizing, and amplifying youth-led social movements. It has been recognized for its participatory approach, which has garnered national and international attention.
